Costa Rica’s Central Pacific is rather obliging. Within one shore day, tropical dry forest gives way to rainforest, scarlet macaws cross the sky, capuchin monkeys inspect the neighborhood and American crocodiles wait along the Tárcoles River with the patience of creatures that have never checked a cruise schedule.
The day balances wildlife viewing with a shaded village walk, a seated river safari, a freshly prepared Costa Rican lunch and a guided return through Puntarenas. Walking is kept short, several portions are optional, and regular seating and restroom opportunities are built into the route.

Reserve your places and Macua Tours will combine individual bookings from guests arriving on the same ship and date. The shared departure is capped at 20 guests and is confirmed once the required minimum participation and supplier availability are secured.
Before arrival, we will send the confirmed meeting time, a clear pickup reference and the day-of contact details. No scavenger hunt at the pier is required.

The route may be adjusted when confirmed reservations, road access and the ship schedule allow. Your proposal will state clearly which services are private and which attraction facilities may be shared with other visitors.
If the ship arrives late, traffic changes or another condition affects the schedule, your guide will adjust or shorten stops before placing the return time at risk. The ship sets the clock.
After walking along the covered pier, exit through the main security gate on Paseo de los Turistas. Your Macua Tours representative will be waiting outside with a sign showing the tour name. From there, it is a short walk to your air-conditioned vehicle.
Travel into the countryside to look for white-faced capuchin monkeys moving through their natural surroundings. They are wild animals, so sightings and close approaches cannot be guaranteed. Their calendar remains impressively free of appointments.
Continue past working farms, plantations and small communities while your guide introduces the Central Pacific region. The landscape changes quickly as tropical dry forest meets wetter rainforest.
Board a river boat for a seated safari along the Tárcoles River and its mangrove habitat. Watch for American crocodiles, herons, egrets, kingfishers and other resident or migratory birds. It is one of the day’s easiest activities and usually its most dramatic.
Continue through the Carara region, where dry and humid forest ecosystems meet. Your guide will make brief wildlife and scenery stops when conditions allow, with particular attention to scarlet macaws and toucans.This excursion does not include admission to Carara National Park or a long rainforest hike.
Visit the re-created Santa Lucía colonial village, with traditional buildings, gardens, a chapel and a short suspended bridge. Join the easy shaded walk or relax in the available seating areas. Restrooms are available.
Sit down for a freshly prepared local lunch. The confirmed menu and available dietary options will be shared before the excursion. Tell us about allergies or dietary restrictions when you inquire.
When road conditions, weather and the ship schedule make it sensible, continue toward the coast for a look at the forest meeting the Pacific. Beach access can involve an uneven or bumpy approach, so the guide will decide whether the stop is comfortable and responsible that day.
Stop briefly to learn about seasonal Costa Rican fruit and sample what is available. A short artisan or coffee stop may be included when time permits. Shopping is optional. A perfectly good shore day should not disappear inside a souvenir shop.
Return through Puntarenas for a guided look at the city and waterfront before heading back to the pier. The visit remains aligned with the protected return buffer and your ship’s published all-aboard time.
